A few pieces of helpful job seeking advice

Over the past couple of weeks we have noticed a few tendencies of job seekers, especially those applying for their first jobs, that frustrate potential employers and recruiters equally.

Update your email address

iPhone Voicemail

Check your voicemail

First we have the unprofessional email address, may seem like a cool email address, but on an application form or CV it just seems immature, unprofessional and childish. We only posted a couple of weeks ago a great infographic showing 76% of CV’s with unprofessional email addresses not even being read! Update yours today.

And secondly we come to the other major form of communication, the mobile phone. Make sure your number is easy to find, it is correct and voicemail is turned on. Turning voicemail on is only half of the problem, never checking your voicemail is even worse!

Make sure you are checking your voicemail and ensure you have a sensible greeting, giving your name and asking the person to leave you a message for you to call back. Your greeting is important, while your friends may find it funny having a silly voicemail will not impress.

So if you are applying for jobs, make sure you are not making the two mistakes above, both can easily be avoided!
