Harrow College Academy Audition Day Task

Apprentice Winner launches employability training academy

For the third year in a row Harrow College have partnered with Apprentice winner Lee McQueen and his business Raw Talent Academy to improve students’ chances of securing employment.

The partnership will see Raw Talent Academy, sales recruitment and training specialists, run an Employability Academy within the college. The aim is to give every student the chance to experience a job application process, as well as taking two groups of 15 students on an in-depth five-stage coaching course built around their current classes.

The two groups will then go head-to-head with McQueen taking on the role of Lord Sugar and judging the candidates before declaring one team the winner. Instead of a six-figure salary the students are battling it out to gain an internship next summer with Raw Talent Academy and other local businesses. Last year three Harrow College students spent the summer interning at Raw Talent Academy.

Audition Day

To gain a place on the coaching course the students will have to attend an Audition Day on the 22 October 2014 at Harrow College’s Weald campus. At least 50 students will attend the Audition Day and be assessed as they undertake tasks inspired by the hit BBC TV show including one where they will create a new brand for the college.

The employability-coaching course will cover subjects not just focused on securing a job – such as interview techniques and goal setting – but also preparing the students for the realities of employment. McQueen himself will deliver the coaching alongside Raw Talent Academy’s experienced coaches, sharing advice on building relationships, an employee’s role within an organisation, the importance of knowledge, entrepreneurship and commercial awareness.

Apprentice Winner Lee McQueen

McQueen, who founded Raw Talent Academy after working for Lord Sugar for over 2 years, announced the latest Employability Academy saying; “Our partnership with Harrow College has been ongoing now for over 3 years and we are thrilled it is continuing. Harrow College is a progressive college aiming to ensure its students have the skills and knowledge necessary to succeed after college. By running this Academy we are helping them to be one of the most forward thinking colleges in the UK.

“This Employability Academy – run by my team who are experienced recruitment consultants – will give the students at the College the opportunity to experience a face to face interview and receive feedback on how to improve next time. Many of these students will have little or no experience of applying for a job and this Academy will help to give them the experience and confidence needed to make the right impression with Employers.”

Lee Janaway, Head of Department – Business, English, Health and Well Being at Harrow College added; “We are extremely pleased to work with Raw Talent Academy and Lee McQueen again, to give our students the opportunity to develop key attributes and skills that will prepare them for employment. We really value the importance of developing student’s skills and knowledge in employability and enterprise as we prepare them for life after college. Last year’s cohort of students who went through this course thoroughly enjoyed the bespoke training and it was evident from feedback from the students, employers and teachers that this training had impacted on their progression choices.”
